Rajadell is a picture-postcard with a medieval charm village, far from the hustle and bustle of cities. Its gothic castle sits proudly at the top of a hill dominating the old village which is organised in cobble-stoned streets and contains St Iscle’s and St Victoria’s church and the Art Gallery Museum

Rajadell (pop. 435) is organised in 6 rural living areas and many scattered farms in an area of 45km2.

The steam of Rajadell is one of the most important landscape elements since it flows along the entire village, creating a rough landscape full of small fountains, hills and plains, and lots of magical paths to be discovered.

MAJOR SIGHTS

Rajadell's Castle

The first written information found about the castle dates back to 1063. However, due to later constructions, it contains some 14th and 17th architecture. The family of the Rajadell occupied an outstanding position in the Catalan and Spanish history.

St Iscle’s and St Victoria’s Church

St Iscle’s and St Victoria’s church is in the old village next to the Art Gallery Museum and near the castle. This cosy small church honours the village patrons, St Iscle and St Victoria. Most of its elements are from the 14thC. and the 17thC.

Art Gallery Museum

The Art Gallery Museum houses all the paintings awarded in the Painting Contest organised during the village festivals since 1970. The village festivals take place during the second and the third weekends of November. The Art Gallery Museum also exhibits some farming tools used in the 19thC and the 20thC.

St Amanç Roman Settlement

This hamlet, which contains a Roman villa, a medieval settlement and some Iberic ruins, is one of the most important archaeological sites in the county.

Mill

The olive-oil mill in Rajadell is one of the last mills which are still using the big circular stone to mash olives in the olive-oil production. In January and February, pure olive-oil from the first mashing is sold.

Rajadell is surrounded by overwhelming landscapes which are worth going over inch by inch. While walking or riding a horse or a BTT, you will be able to discover woods and fields, mills and towers, farms and chapels, and the steam of Rajadell and its fountains.
